WHO WE ARE

Since the Southern Maryland Sailing Association’s founding in 1972, the breadth of programs and member benefits has continued to grow. Today, SMSA members enjoy a prime waterfront clubhouse in downtown Solomons Island, Maryland. With its great view of the Patuxent River and the on-premise small boat / dinghy storage spaces, the facility is one of a kind.

From Racing to Cruising, Junior Sailing camps to Adult Learn to Sail classes, Social events to concerts, we’ve got something for you!

WHAT WE DO

  • Runs/host races for boats big and small
  • Hosts member socials
  • Maintains a first rate waterfront clubhouse – the only facility of its kind in Southern Maryland
  • Maintains a race committee boat and race marks
  • Boasts a full calendar of races, cruises, and social events
  • Holds junior sailing summer camps
  • Trains new sailors (Sample classes include on-the water sailing classes, racing classes, First Aid/CPR, Navigation, Sail Trim, Cruising, Fiberglass Repair, Radar, GPS...)
  • Hosts seminars and other sailing related training events
  • Hosts concerts, comedy shows, dances, and more…

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

New members: First year annual dues are prorated for new members. Dues are assessed starting the month after the month of application. A Initiation fee is due upon application for all membership applications. Initiation fee is $288 for Regular membership ($200 until 6/30/24), $200 for Young Adult membership, and $0 for Junior membership.

New members require sponsorship by an existing member. - Don't have sponsor?  Contact the membership chair (membership@smsa.com) or stop by our weekly Friday night social to meet a member!
