2018 Sailing Classes

2018 NEWS AND CHANGES
Welcome to the 2018 SMSA Sailing School Information and Registration. We are excited to continue offering our students courses from beginners to advanced dinghy racing! And for our high school and middle school students, we now offer an SMSA HS/MS Racing Team program that features 10 week sessions in the fall and spring as a member of the Interscholastic Sailing Association. Your young sailor can continue sailing through these team events with after school practice and training plus weekend interscholastic junior varsity and varsity racing programs. Teams from throughout our area, VA, MD, PA, NC and up and down the Atlantic coast, participate in a variety of regatta opportunities. To learn more about the new High School Team program visit smsa.com and click on High School Sailing Program.

CHANGES TO INTERMEDIATE SAILING COURSES
We’ve made a change to one of our classes. Our intermediate sailing class is now 2 WEEKS LONG. To really improve sailing skills, like any sport, repetition is key. So, staying with a specific learning program for two weeks really gives a student a chance to solidify the skills that gain them confidence and successful sailing. And prepares them to continue on to the sailing teams at the HS/MS ages.

BEGINNERS DO WELL WITH TWO WEEKS ALSO
Your beginner sailor can also greatly benefit from two continuous weeks of sailing school. They get to practice the basics more, be on the water more with their hands on the boat’s tiller, get more class discussion on what makes the boat go and why. The repetition, again, is key to getting their sailing skills going. So, if at all possible, plan to enroll your beginners for TWO WEEKS to really see them bloom as sailors.

Are there 'sponges' on your sofa? Send them sailing!
